Avenger - Feast Of Anger-Joy Of Despair Review

Release date-July 2009

Label-Grom Records(Eur)Deathgasm Records(USA)

I had heard of Avenger before receiving this album, but I thought they broke up since it has been almost years since these czech freaks released any new material.
"The birth of the muse" opens this cd with a nice mid tempo pace and some solid double bass drumming going on behind it, before preceding to rip my face off.
This album has a nice variations of tempos, with some seriouly strong songwriting influxed with doses of melody throughout.
The inclusion of the timpani thoughtout the cd is a nice touch and certanly adds to this album. The vocals are very strong compared to their previous releases and this album definately eclipses any and all previous efforts from this band.
There is a nice mixture of death metal riffage going on within as well, but the album also maintains strong black/thrash moments as well.
While I have a hard time escaping the strong dissection vibe here, this album has alot to offer for fans of Dissection as well as fellow countrymen Master's Hammer and Root.
While not an album that deserves repeated listens, it is definately a step in the right direction for them and I will be keep an eye out for future works from them.
