Azrath Interview 12-09

1.First off the new album PRAISE THE BEAST is fucking intense!!!How has the response been thus far?

Thanks for your words! We wanted to achieve such intensity as well as dark mood for that album. The response is fuckin great

so far!

2.The band has been pretty consistent having it been almost 12 years together and 4 full lengths.Has it been difficult to

accomplish this? You have kept pretty much the same members which i am sure hasn't hurt.

The band started as a trio-Inferno, Bruno and D. I joined the band before dubut album. After second album "Infernal Blasting"

D. decided to leave because of personal reasons. So we asked Thrufel (ex-Yattering) to join us as second guitarist. At present

we just split up with Bruno. He couldn't focus on the band matters from many time, and he decided to focus on his personal

life. So now we have new member as vocalist and bassist - Necrosodom (Anima Damnata, ex-Thunderbolt), who is very great
musician!

3.The new album sounds more "polished" but is still very brutal and violent without being overproduced. What were your goals as

a unit heading into the studio this time??

We just wanted to have such a sound, with brutality but still not so clear. As the whole album is rather dark we wanted to

have the sound readable but not so clean, drums are dark, with guitars' violent and massive wall of sound. We spent lot of

time on mastering, we cannot find the exact effect, it was always something wrong. And finally we did not so fuckin loud

mastering, not so overproduced. One can say it is not such attack like on the previous album "Diabolic Impious Evil" but be

sure, it is what we want.

4.What if any would you say is the biggest difference in the band now then in the days of the TRAITOR demo?

Lot of changes, starting with the line up, music development, and another way of work on the music. Earlier we spent and

rehearse more at the rehearsal place. Nowadays we spent more time creating riffs and recording it on computer, then with

almost final version we go to the rehearsal place to arrnage all together. Earlier we just haven't got such possibility.

5.The one thing i noticed was that all of your album covers are very simple and evil as fuck and very similar to each other. Is

this intentional and do you agree that the music will speak for itself?

I hope and would like the music to speak for itself. COncernig the covers's style - for the first three albums we used old

drawings for the covers, for the last album we have the cover made for us by Ataman Tolovy (from Stillborn band). We still

have black/white layout and cover. We think it suits to our music -  evil, darkness, blasphemy.

6.I realise that the biggest draw to the band is the prescence of founding member Inferno.Do you fell that it heps/hinders the

band. How involved in the writing process is he?

I don't know if it helps or not, concerning the audience, reviews and feedback from the magazines and labels. But it surely

helps in writing process. Inferno is very involved in it. He composes many songs and riffs for Azarath. Since second album we

work both together on guitars lines, he creates songs and riffs on guitar (YES), then we spend lot of time together to arrange

all guitars lines playing guitars together. That's the way we work.

7.Continuing with the previous theme. Is it difficult for you to tour because he is so busy with behemoth.I know you play quite

a bit in your homeland, but have been limited to only festival appearence thru out europe.Do you wish you would tour alot more

or is this just not possible?

We would like to tour and play more but it's difficult. It costs a lot to play bigger tour in EUrope and we cannot afford for

that. We got some offers but in that time we just could not have possibility, everyone of us have jobs, other duties... We

have no chance to play lot with Inferno, we just played only 3 shows with him this year - Inferno Festival in Oslo and 2 shows

in Poland, other shows we play with our live drummer Adam Sierzega (Armagedon, ex Lost Soul drummer) who is also fuckin great!

8.The band obviously have a strong satanic theme.I know alot of bands from poland come under strong attack due to the strong

christian presence in the government there.Has azarath had any problems with this? Was it only natural to uses themes for

azarath and is it your personel feelings and outlook?

It was natural, we all grew up on death metal/black metal, satanic and blasphemous theme. As for the problems in Poland we had

one show cancelled in Opole city (Azarath and Vesania) during Polish tour with VADER in 2006 because of "satanic music and

image". This year, during the tour with Behemoth there in Poland, we have some actions of one guy, who is famous there for

bringing Nergal to the court, who tried to stop/cancel some shows. He claimed Behemoth and Azarath as satanic bands, but

fortunately we've played all shows and everything went fuckin geat!

9.Like i had stated earlier the early sound of the band was raw, brutal and primal. What were your influences then and are they

still the same.Do you listen to mostly death metal outside of your work with azarath?

Yes, I think that influences are the same, mainly death metal (Immolation, Morbid Angel, Sinister, Krisiun), but also some

black metal attitude (Venom, Sarcofago, Bathory). Personally I listen mostly to death metal, black metal, but also soundtracks

and other stuff.

10.What does 2010 bring for the band? Will you guys be touring at all?Any chance of a us appearence?Or just waiting till it's

time for the next record?

Hard to say, surely we will work on new songs, riffs. We would like to play the tour, and some festivals this summer. But we

will see what happen. If anyone could invite us to US we could go there and play

11.Well i believe that is all.Thank you for your time and any final thoughts for the readers?

Thank you also for this interview! PLease stay tuned on our myspace or web-site, if we confirm any show you will find it

there! Praise the Beast!!!
