Horna - Musta Kaipuu Review

Horna - Musta Kaipuu

Best of/Compilation, Debemur Morti Productions
July 17th, 2009
Re-released by Moribund Records 11/16/09.

Its hard to judge Musta Kaipuu fairly.
As the material has been actually recorded during Horna's Envaatnags Eflos Solf Esgantaavne sessions back in 2005 and didn't made it on a CD yet, this CD can only be labeled as a compilation album.
But before you start to think that it's all b-side stuff of second class (or worse) you should give it a listen.
The first five tracks pass by my ears easily.
Especially "Piina" and "Unohdetut Kasvot, Unohdettu Ääni" catched my attention immediately.
The decent played punkish fashioned black metal with some dominant rock 'n roll riffing and a hypnotic atmosphere remember me partial of the good old Burzum.
But from the track "Oi Kallis Koitimaa" on, which stands quite contra to the other tracks because its folkish riffing and pagan choir, the CD gets boring.
Its followup "Pohjanporrti" just ends apruptly as if the band just stopped right in the middle of recording and the remaining songs don't match the quality at the beginning.
Whats missing is a red line through the album!

The songs by themselves are mostly not bad but the compilation makes it hard to concentrate after the first half is over.

4/10

Herr Nekro MMIX.
