BLOOD TSUNAMI "Grand Feast For Vultures" - Review.

Photobucket

These guys have had quite a bit of hype and expectations thrown upon them. BLOOD TSUNAMI play a vintage thrash style with also new elements in there as well. There is a big Kreator influence (think "Terrible Certainty" a bit, more "Extreme Aggression"). They have a bit of newer Destruction thrown in with some good bay area Testament when they are good thrash banging going on."Castle Of Skulls" comes first. A good opener of thrashing going on. The drums are overly triggered and the production is a bit too clean for my tastes. But these guys are kicking ass on here for sure. Good riffage going on. The title track rages next. There are some deep growls along with the singers usual shrieking Millie style. It has more of a modern feel to it in the middle. Kind of melodic in that At The Gates way that is so popular now. Not bad, but not as good as the start. Then the song has a cool middle part. Starts of kind of scary new metal almost, but then goes better with a middle period Slayer type slow riff. More of the real melodic yet "crushing" type of thrash is on this song. It's a cool song with this part though. "Personal Exorcism" is next with it's middle banging intro that goes into some ridiculous double bass part. I mean that type writer is going full speed! There is a slower, melodic part, that has more of the type writer going into the middle of the song. Why do drummer use triggers? ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!! This song gets very boring. More of a slower one. "Nothing But Contempt" starts slow and dark. Now I'm starting to see a big Slayer "Seasons In The Abyss" influence with these guys. It starts off slower and heavy, then gets faster thrash. Pretty cool build up and good fast parts. "Laid To Waste" is a good fast banger. Really good main riff. Any thrash fan would dig this song! "Eceladus Rising" is next with it's slower, melodic start. Very pretty guitar parts, AWWWWW. This song blows fucking donkey dick! It sounds like Dragon whatever their name is. It doesn't fit on this album. It is all guitar wankage as far as notes go. It's an instrumental. It's over 12 minutes long! When you have a singer like this dude, let him scream! He is good! Fuckers, don't do that again! "One Step Closer To The Grave" is the album closer. Slower and melodic kind of drags. It's over 10 minutes long. it starts to pick up with the typewriter again. I was hoping for a fast ass ending, but it just gets all Amon Amarth crushing, which is cool. I like the singer quite a bit. Killer shriek! And these guys have their moments of very good. But nothing special to go out and buy right away. I think half of the trash kids will love this. And people just getting into metal will dig it as well. It drags quite a bit in parts. But I wonder what these guys would do if they just thrashed their asses off and not fucked around with the pretty parts? They would kick ass! Oh and ditch the typewriter! Killer album cover BTW! This is out on Candlelight Records.
