Troll - Neo Satanic Supremacy Review

Troll - Neo Satanic Supremacy
Label: Napalm Records
Release Date:January 2010

So when i first heard that Norwegian black metal act TROLL had reformed and were going to release a new album, I must admit being the black metal purist that I am, I was a little excited. They were one of those bands that kinda flew under the radar in the mid '90's with a few good albums. Admitedly I am weary of anything frontman Nagash is in involved with varying from the gay (Dimmu Borgir) to the uber gay (The Kovenant).
This brings us to their newest napalm records release NEO SATANIC SUPREMACY.
Unfortuantely my promo version doesn't have song titles, which doesn't really matter as most of these tracks are sung in the bands native tongue anyway, but also for reasons which I will get to at the end of this review. The album moves along at varying paces, it is very synth dominated which at times provides a nice sense of atmosphere, but that alone doesn't make a great black metal album, as plenty of bands do it without synths. Nagash's vocals at times sounds like abbath which appealed to me quite a bit. There are a few headbagable parts at the beginning of this record but this was more of a tease as this album starts to drag itself slowly into the The Kovenant area towards the end of the record. While I can definitely say with confidence this is better than anything that Dimmu Borgir has done in the last 10-12 years, but this effort from the band is just to lackluster and uninteresting, as it all seems to run together at times and it just doesn't feature the ferocity of their earlier works.
Lets hope they stick around and bring a bit more of the fury the next go.
A total piece of shit, no, uneventful, definitely!
