HAVOK "Burn" - Review.

Photobucket

I have seen these guys play live before. But to be honest I don't remember Havok because it was with 10 other "re-hashed", thrash revival bands. After a pretty intro "Wreckquiem" the thrash gets going with "The Root of Evil". It is a typical mid paced, regular thrash song. It has some fast parts to it, but it is mostly mid paced. "Path to Nowhere" is next with a slower/mid paced intro part that kind of sounds like Megadeth. It then gets kind of fast with the old style "thrash gallop" part. "Morbid Symmetry" starts off with a cool bass line that goes into a fast banger part and some fancy guitar interplay. This song is much more aggressive. Until the mid paced part. And the chorus which is kind of sing a long style. I was never a fan of the jock type singing in thrash, the style that the Pantera guy made a living off of. The singer does that here quit a bit. With a Chuck Billy style as well. It is also funny hearing a band try and play classic thrash with triggered drums. "Identity Theft" is next. Then "The Disease", "Scabs of Trust", "Ivory Tower", "To Hell", "Category of the Dead", "Melting the Mountain", and finally "Afterburner". Fuck it's finally over. Every song sounds the same. Like some sort of Megadeth, Testament, new Exodus worship. Every song changes from some re-hashed mid paced thrash riff, to the kind of fast gallop part, to some Megalife melodic part. The last song actually has a faster part and a cool riff. This is the best song on the album. But all in all this album sounds like one big long fucking song. This is on Candlelight Records.
