Release Date:November 25 2009
Record Label:Deathgasm Records
You can imagine my excitement upon receiving this mcd.
I have always loved Nominon's blend of old and new school death metal. It has been a few years since the band released the excellent Terra Necrosis so my personal expectation for this teaser (because thats what it is) from the forthcoming album Monumentomb, due for release in mar/april 2010, was quite high.
Opening track "Omen" kicks of this cd in typical Nominon fashion: with old school swedish filth ripping your face clean the fuck off!!!
While a bit more mid tempo than I would like, the song nonetheless has a very catchy groove. The band who recently saw the departure of vocalist Daniel Garptoft, used several different vocalists on the cd, which may seem a bit uneven at first, but this is one of those albums where it works! ...well at least on the mcd it does.
Erik Sahlstrom of the mighty General Surgery does a fine job lay down the hyms of satan on the album opener.
Track two "Invocation" displays a far more fierce attack as drummer Perra Larlsson blasts his ass off behind some very focused riffing.
Track three is a re -ecording of "Thru Dead Dreams Door" which originally appeared on the Blaspheming The Dead 7" and features vocals by original Insision screamer Johan "Barsk" Thornberg. This track for one sounds much better as that trademark necromorbus sound is very much at the front of this track.
Finally album closer is a live recording of "Submit To Evil" which originally appeared on the Recremation album.
Done with recently departed vocalist Daniel Garptoft this song showcases where Nominon is their most deadly, the live arena!!!
While the sound quality is shitty, which I feel is on purpose, it showcases a tight veteran band doing what they do best: KILL!!!!!!!
I would recommend this to people who love Nominon, but it is hard to give an exact diagnosis of this mcd. But it is however a good sample of a band that is more focused and determined then ever. Enter Monumentomb!!!!!
8.5/10
