ONSLAUGHT "Live Damnation" - Review.

Photobucket

I wear an Onslaught patch on my vest. "Power From Hell" is one of my favorite albums of all time. Total thrashing Venom worship that stands up there with Slayer and Bathory in 1985. The next year "The Force" came out, not as classic as the debut, but still awesome with great thrash metal madness. " In Search Of Sanity" came out in 1989. It was a bad album. There were quite a few line up changes after the debut so the sound started to change a bit. By the time "In Search Of...." came out, it seemed Onslaught were following the trend of the time with thrash. The relentless attack and energy of the bands started to die off and thrash bands wanted to be progressive and even mainstream. They had a comeback album in 2007 that wasn't a bad thrash metal album at all "Killing Peace". Candlelight Records decided to sign them and put that album out, as well as "Power From Hell" and this album/ DVD "Live Damnation". It was recorded at The Damnation Festival in Leeds, England in 2008. This CD starts off with "Killing Peace" from the said "comeback" album. The song is a fast paced one. Very bay area thrash influenced. That album is well represented here with the tracks "Destroyer Of Worlds", "Planting Seeds Of Hate" and "Burn". All are OK thrash songs, not bad, but not anything different or special. I do give Onslaught credit for at least being agressive than most with these newer songs. Very Overkill/Exodus type thrash. The 2nd track is "Let There Be Death" off "The Force". Killer song. Also from "The Force" are "Metal Forces" and "Demoniac" which are rippers and great to hear on here. The end of the album comes with "Power From Hell". But it sounds nothing like the original song "Damnation/Onslaught (Power from Hell)". Unless they wrote a new song called "Power From Hell"? Fuck who knows. I was also looking forward to some songs off of "Power From Hell" but nothing! Fucking lame to be honest. I know they wanted to showcase the new stuff, but don't forget the classics! If they had included some of those great songs, this would have been better.
