The Legion - A Bliss To Suffer REVIEW

Full-length, Listenable Records
April 27th, 2009
A Bliss To Suffer, the newest album by The Legion, is a hybrid of the harsh death-lasting black metal with various symphonic keyboard sections.
From the first track on you'll get your face kicked in by the drumming of former Marduk artillery chief Emil Dragutinovic while the guitars sew your skull in the typical swedish way.
Notable fact is that the band finished this record all by themselves, meaning that they recorded, mastered and mixed it.
Technically the album is good material with some keyboard/intros as exception and every(!) song has a high potential to crawl into your head and rest there for a while - thanks to a catchy groove throughout the record.
Especially notable are the songs "Shining Redemption", "A Toil Beneath The Skin", "Blood, Be Gone!" and "The Luring Depths".
But to get to the negative site: it feels like there is no such thing as a red line throughout the album, and although the songs are good for themselves, they could be in any order.
What I am missing is a significant "heart-piece" and a bit order to keep the attention on the brute force of the songs.
Anyway the last word has not yet been spoken and after the DIY attitude of A Bliss To Suffer, I think we can expect more from the forthcoming works of The Legion.

6/10
