HUNTERS MOON "The Serpents Lust" - Review.

Photobucket

Here we have some killer mid paced black metal from Australia in the style of Bathory "Blood Fire Death"/"Hammerheart" era, mixed with some Venom. It is totally 1980s olden black metal in sound, both in performance and atmosphere. "Deadly Paradise" begins the album. It is a nice acoustic intro that flows into "A Light In The Abyss" with it's crushing Viking worship like start. It has the same vibe that "Shores In Flames" did when I first heard it, very epic sounding. "The Ravens Swoon" continues the barrage of ancient black metal, it also goes into a killer Frost/Hellhammer type part towards the middle. The guitar solos fit very well with the atmosphere of the song, as they do overall throughout the album. "Baphomet" is next and starts off very doomy, almost Pentagram(U.S.) like, that then goes into a fast part more like early Bathory. This album reminds me of how Immortal captured total Bathory worship done very well on "Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism". There is a similar vibe in a lot of the album. The song ends with a killer Venom type part at the end, with the Abaddon type one/two beat. The title track comes next and it plods along with the same killer epic riffs and solos as the songs before it. "Last Rites" ends this mini album with it's acoustic part and drum fills that then turn on the power and brings this killer album to a close. These guys also have a Destroyer 666, thrashy type style to them as well, which quite a few Aussie bands seem to be influenced by that style, and WHY NOT! IT RULES! HAHA. This is for fans of simple, true, old fashioned black metal from it's birth orgins. I fucking dig it. And yet another killer release from Hell's Headbangers.
