FIRST OFF THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DO THIS INTERVIEW.
1-HOW HAS LIFE BEEN SINCE THE SIGNING TO MORIBUND?
THEY HAVE SEEMED TO DO ALOT OF GOOD THINGS FOR YOU GUYS IN SUCH A SHORT TIME.
Thanks for the interview for starters; this will be the first pertaining to
Black Faith Inquisition. We are very pleased to be on such a great label!
Dageth always wanted Blood Stained Dusk to be on Moribund, and so did I! The
label is making it possible to take My and Dageth's vision and dream to a whole
new level.
2-WERE THERE ALOT OF LABELS INTERESTED IN YOU GUYS?
We had a few look into us that were pretty big labels, and a handful of smaller
ones as well. Which label signs you can make a big difference in what you can
accomplish as a band, in terms of touring and recording, especially. The timing
for signing bands was at a crucial point with everthing being so expensive and
the economy being the way it is now - if we wanted to release Black Faith
Inquisition and tour to support
it, we needed label backing.
Ever since the downloadable music came into everyone's lives, they took the
easier route, not caring that it screws up bands' chances of selling cds and
makes it difficult for new bands to get recognized for their talents.
3-YOU GUYS ARE ALREADY GOING INTO THE STUDIO TO BEGIN RECORDING.
WILL THIS RECORDING BE A LOGICAL PROGESSION FROM BLACK FAITH INQUISITION?
I, Oroan, and Thorgrin will be returning to the studio ASAP to do the final
tracking for Black Faith Inquisition! We are extremely excited that we finally
get to finish this album, and look forward to getting this plague out to the
masses!
The material on Black Faith Inquisition is a definite progression from our
previous cds; it also has more focus and control throughout.
4-WILL THIS BE THE FIRST RECORDING WITH PEST?
Yes, this will be the first record we have done with Pest. He did the vocals
on the promo for Black Faith Inquisition so far, and will return with us into
the studio to do the final tracks very soon! He did a killer job on the 4 songs
we have already recorded for the album. I cannot wait to hear what he does with
the final tracks!
5-PEST WILL BE A STUDIO ONLY MEMBER.
HOW DID YOU GUYS COME INTO THIS PARTNERSHIP?
We have known one another for about 6 years now, I believe. Pest and I met at a
show Blood Stained Dusk played in Tennessee, and have been great friends ever
since the meeting.
Yes, he is a studio/session member, and he also performed with us at Hellfire
Manifest (a fest in honor of our brother Dageth's memory). We do hope to bring
him on the road with us sometime.
6-WILL PEST EVER APPEAR LIVE WITH YOU GUYS?
As stated above, Pest has already appeared live with us, but it is difficult for
him to travel much because he has a family to take care of and cannot just leave
them and go on the road. It is his responsibility to tend to them and his
employer.
However, he did say that if Blood Stained Dusk ever got to tour Europe that he
would really think about doing it, haha!
Let's hope that day comes in the future!
7-THIS UPCOMING TOUR IS YOUR MOST EXTENSIVE IN A LONG TIME.
ARE YOU GUYS LOOKING TO DO THIS ALOT?
Yes, we are really looking forward to such an extensive tour! This tour is a
bit longer than the last one with Monstrosity in 2002, and the 2002 tour was
completely self-financed.
Now that we are on a label that wants its bands to tour, and the label backs them
up when the bands need help on the road, we hope to tour a few times a year, if
everyone's schedule permits.
8- DO YOU FIND IT HARD TO DO ALOT OF TOURING?
I'd have to say yes, it is very hard for anyone to just pick up and ride around
the USA or Europe for a month or so at a time. But, I also see it as being
totally worthwhile if you still hunger for it and are willling to sacrifice.
I have been on several tours, and loved every minute of them! Well, except the
breaking down part on the hottest day of the year in Kansas, haha!
I did session work for Ancient (Norway_ on the Mad Grandiose Bloodfiends tour,
and that was one of the best times of my life, as I got to do both the USA and
Europe back in 1998.
9-PROFANA, YOU ARE THE LAST ORIGINAL MEMBER OF THE BAND.
DO YOU FEEL THAT THE CURRENT LINEUP FULLFILLS THE VISION YOU AND DAGETH
ORIGINALLY INTENDED FOR THE BAND?
I am both the founder of the band and the last original member remaining in the
band; however, I see the members currently in Blood Stained Dusk as equal to me,
and I treat them as such.
We put together a very good lineup for this tour, and we have full intentions of
exceeding our fallen brother's expectations for the band. He knew everyone that
we have chosen to take with us on the road, and respected them as brothers and
as musicians.
10-THE DEATH OF DAGETH OBVIOUSLY HAD A DRASTIC IMPACT ON THIS BAND.
SO MUCH THAT YOU GUYS BROKE UP AND WERE INACTIVE FOR QUITE A WHILE.
DO YOU FIND YOURSELF IN DENIAL OF HIS DEATH AND WHAT KIND OF LASTING EFFECT HAS
IT HAD ON THE BAND IF ANY?
The loss of one of my best friends and bandmates never leaves me. It is truly a
blow to the lives of all who knew him. He was a musical genius and a brother for
whom I cared dearly.
When he died, he band came to an abrupt hault, and we simply put playing aside
while trying to decide what to do, and where to go with the band.
Dageth and I had spoken about what we should do if something ever happened
to one of us, and sometimes we said that would be the end of the band, but at
other times we would say the opposite - that we wanted one another to keep the
flame rising.
His death even to this day creates turmoil within me, and I ask myself whether I
have made the right choices. Ever since we decided to record Black Faith
Inquisition and to do some tours, I had an enormous wieght taken off of me,
almost like, yes I made the right decision to keep the legacy going a little
longer, to finish the book, in other words.
All Dageth wanted was to get Blood Stained Dusk's music out there, and for us to
bring the band all over the world. With the help of our label, anything can
happen now.
11-OTHER THAN YOUR OBVIOUS LOVE FOR BLACK METAL, WHAT LED YOU TO REFORM? DID IT
FEEL WRONG TO DO IT WITHOUT HIM?
It seems as though a lot of people have this misconception of the band's status.
We NEVER broke up - we just had to have a break to think about what needed to be
done, and if it should be done. We were just on hiatus for a bit, that's all.
The real reasons for doing the album and tour are mainly for closure for me and
for Dageth. I hate to leave things unfinished, and me leaving all that we worked
for and Dageth's musical legacy just to rot away without being heard was killing
me. I also was thinking about how Dageth's dream would never come to be if we
had not decided to go on for a litttle while
longer. But just for the record here, we NEVER broke up.
12-NOW THAT YOU ARE NOW CONSIDERED AN ACTIVE FULLTIME BAND,HOW FAR ARE YOU GUYS
PLANNING ON TAKING THIS?
IS THIS A STABLE LINEUP? DO YOU FEEL THE PIECES ARE IN PLACE TO CONTUNE THE
SUCCESS YOU ENJOYED EARLY ON?
We just have to wait and see what oppurtunities arise for us, to be honest. We
would love to do some big tours, once again, and if the time and circumstances
are right I don't see why we couldn't do more. We have enough material from 4
albums to do several tours.
I believe the band's lineup is very strong and very solid, and we all have other
projects. I have Apocryph and Coven of the Dying Sun. Oroan formed and has
toured extensively with Quinta Essentia. Thorgrin is in Chaos Inception, and in
Coven of the Dying Sun. When the time comes for touring or doing fests, we have
plenty of options.
13-HOW DO YOU THINK DAGETH WOULD FEEL ABOUT THE CURRENT LINEUP AND THE UPCOMING
MATERIAL?
DO YOU THINK HE WOULD APPROVE?
I believe Dageth is giving us horns from the abyss! I fought really hard to
keep this going, as my heart is fully into this! I know for a fact that he
would be very proud of us, and would be more than pleased about the lineup,
especially since he was close to everyone that is going on the tour. There's no
question about it - he would approve of the chosen lineup.
14-I KNOW THE BAND TAKES UP ALOT OF YOUR TIME.
WHAT PAYS THE BILLS FOR YOU AND WHAT OCCUPYS ANY FREE TIME?
Yes, bands take up alot of time! Haha, yes that's for fucking sure! Blood
Stained Dusk is my main focus though, and the other bands I'm in understand that
this will always be how it is.
During my free time, I usually do leatherwork, and I mess around with Horror Fx
makeup. I'm a huge fan of Tom Savini and Dick Smith, especially!
I sell my leather work through http://www.myspace.com/profanasleather
I make custom gantlets, boot covers, etc. Come check the page out!
Everyone in the band pays the bills by working a regular full-time job. Only a
select few can say that they make a living playing metal. We have lost our
asses plenty of times, but it was always worth it!
15-OK SO NOW A FUN QUESTION TO THINK ABOUT.
SAY YOU HAD TO SPEND ONE YEAR ON A DESSERTED ISLAND.
WHAT ONE CD WOULD YOU TAKE.
WHAT ONE PERSON WOULD YOU TAKE.
WHAT ONE FOOD WOULD YOU TAKE.
AND WHAT ONE PERSONAL ITEM WOULD YOU TAKE??
Hmmmm. Shit, that's a hard one, but I can say that if I had to listn to only one
cd for a year, I'd toss the fucking thing in the water, hahaha!
With a person, I'd say that whoever it was........I ate their liver with some
fava beans and a nice cold Chianti! haha!
Food - Coffee
Personal item would be drums
16- THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR TIME.
I KNOW DAGETH IS PROUD OF YOU GUYS.
ANY FINAL WORDS?
Thanks a lot for the interview, for one! This is the 1st one we have had in a
very long time!
It means a lot for you to say that he is proud of us. I thank you for that!
We are going back into the studio before August ends - wish us luck! We will
also be touring this year in November with the great Finnish Black Metal band
Horna. Make sure to come out! See you then! There is a list of tour dates on
our page, and the venues will be put up soon! Our page is http://www.myspace.com/bloodstaineddusk
and the official band page is under re-construction, but will be back up soon!
